Allison Peters, Journals and Outreach Coordinator, Michigan Publishing

I’m a poet and activist for open access education, global literacy, and public wellness through culturally embracing and prioritizing the arts and each other. Currently, I work as Journals and Outreach Coordinator in the Services division of Michigan Publishing, where I manage the Michigan Journals program and acquire new Maize Books projects as well as U-M student and institutional history publications for digital and print offerings. I’m also the founder of the Michigan Library Publishing Club, which plans and hosts quarterly Pub Club events in collaboration with Michigan Publishing and the Library Staff Forum Board for the Ann Arbor community and beyond. I studied English language and literature, creative writing, and film/media at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, where I earned an honors BA in 2011. I’ve been awarded artist residencies with the Grin City Collective and the Crosshatch Center for Art and Ecology as well as scholarships to the Bear River Writers’ Conference, and I’m the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize. My poems have been published in The Collagist, Michigan Quarterly Review, Hobart, The Michigan Daily, and elsewhere, and I’m the founder, editor, and publisher of Orange Quarterly. I also teach creative writing workshops for kids at the nonprofit 826michigan, freelance copyedit, and volunteer at Wolverine Press in my spare time. I tweet @aleighpoet, and I love acting, songwriting, philosophy, film, and architecture.
